얼마만에 들어와 보는 블로그 인지.
어느새 뜨거웠던 여름도 지나고 낙엽도 진 초겨울이 성큼 다가왔다.
일년에 반을 비와 함께 보내는 우리는 여름이 되면 주말마다 여기저기 다니느라 시간 가는줄 모른다. 하이킹, 피크닉, 바베큐 파티에 바이킹까지 금요일만 되면 들떠있던 것도 잠시 다시 비가 내리는 축축한 겨울이 돌아왔다.
블로그를 시작할때만 해도 한창 신혼을 즐기고 있을때. 웨딩 드레스만 봐도 설레였는데... 어느덧 나는 4년차 주부가 되어있고 이제 또 새로운 소식을 기다리고 있다.
그것이 아마 natural progression 이겠지만.
여름내 공사하던 새집이 이제 어느정도 자리를 잡았고 이제 내년 초 이사할 날만 기다리고 있다.
슬슬 인테리어에 대해 생각할 때가 된것 같다. 왠만큼 각은 잡아놨지만 막상 가구 하나하나 고를려니 고민이 이만저만이 아니다. 신혼살림을 장만하지 않고 결혼생활을 시작했더 터라 이것저것 살게 정말 많다.
우선 큰 아이템부터 결정하기로 했는데 벌써부터 걸린다. 오래전부터 EthanAllen 의 Chippendale Sofa 를 봐왔는데 남편은 앤틱의 앤자만 들어가도 기겁을 한다. 그리고 이제 아가떄문에 심플하고 막쓸수 있는 가구를 선택하려다 Crate and Barrel Petrie Sofa 쪽으로 마음이 기운다. 두개 다 들여놓고 싶지만... 주말에 한번 쭉 둘러봐야 겠다.

We are in the process of building our first home on west hills and have been busy picking out designs for various parts of the house. While this is the most exciting part of the whole process we are feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of different choices out there. I had no idea I had to choose between 5 cm/7cm fiber length for carpeting. Honestly I'd rather have the experts do that for us and just make us buy what they've picked . To help alleviate the stress we are feeling I have been reverting back to some of the images I've collected over the years in anticipation of this exact event. It's helped quite a bit so far and my hope is that we'll be able to create ours as beautiful as these.

내가 살고있는 포트랜드의 여름은 완벽의 가깝다. 그리 덥지도 않고 춥지도 않은 구름한점 없는 파란하늘이 7월초부터 9월초까지 계속 된다. 단지 너무 짧다는게 흠이지만...
남편과 나는 여름 시작 땡부터 지금까지 매주 하이킹, 자전거 타기, 바베큐 파티를 즐기며 행복한 나날을 보내고 있다. 일년에 서너번은 갔던 여행은 못가지만 쉬지않고 정말 많이도 놀러다니고 있다.
그래서 그런지 컴퓨터앞에 앉아있는 시간은 없어지고 그 덕분에 쇼핑은 물론 개인 이멜체크도 제대로 안하고 있다. 아 그래도 요즘 트윗의 재미에 푹빠져 열심히 쫒아다닌고 있는중.

일년에 한번 꼭 하는 Nordstrom Anniversary 세일 광풍때 벼르고 벼르다 산 버버리 트렌치를 사진을 올린다. 코튼이네 폴리네 말이 많았지만 내가 아는 터키공장에서 Synthetic 으로 만든 네이비 트렌치를 햇볕 가득한 요즘 사놓고 흐믓해 하고 있는 중이다. 가격은 $500불 조금 더 준거같다. 살림하는 아줌마로써 쉽지않았지만 클래식 라인보다는 가격이 좋았고 아마 그 세일이라는 함정에 나도 빠지지 않았을까. 당분간 쇼핑은 아마 못할듯. 키가 작다면 페팃 싸이즈로 오더하는것이 좋을듯 하다.
이 짧고 달콤한 여름이 가고 긴 우기가 돌아올때 매일 입고 다니지 않을까하는 생각이...

I just ordered these for my friend E's baby J's Dohl party next week. It'll come in PDF so I still have to make the toppers and everything myself but with less than a week to go I needed all the help I could get. Initially E told me she just wanted a small intimate gathering of her closest friends and didn't think she needed to decorate but I finally persuaded her into accepting my help. I feel bad that I don't have the time to make them myself but after searching for hours on Etsy I finally found a set that I really liked. Etsy seller tomkatstudio's simple and modern designs saves the day.

Last night i went to the movies with two of my friends all dressed up. We went to go see the SATC 2. i thoroughly enjoyed the 2 1/2 hour movie. the outfits they wore in the movie were crazy and over the top but very appropriate. i loved the scene where Carrie runs into her ex-flame on the street. Her petite figure looked even more tiny when the guy picked her up and swirled her around in the middle of the market place. The full satiny full skirt she wore with dior T made her look so femm, I just loved it. I am also still thinking about Carrie + Big's NYC apt and got some ideas on my own for ours. I think what made it fun was the fact that I was with my good friends and we really treated the night like a special girls only event just like the girls in the movie. Now go see the movie!

I'd like to believe that I am detail oriented, there are some things that I do that drive the hubs crazy but nevertheless we both feel that at least one of us has to be that way. So where am I going with this? well, recently i made some small mistakes that led me to realize that I might not be as DOriented as I once thought.
100 layer cake is one of my favorite wedding blogs I visit frequently and I didn't notice this the last time this was up but I noticed that this very stylish guy called out in the pic (bottom right) is our T-shirt designer! I guess he works with the groom. I forgot the name of the guy but I always thought that he has impeccable sense of style and knew from the getgo that he was a designer even before he was introduced to the group when he first started. He kind of reminds me of Daniel Henny who BTW is on TV right now and much much better looking. Anyways, my point being, how can I miss this photo? I should've recognized him when the post first went up. But then again, the wedding itself is not exactly my style with all the vintage things. Fresh flowers make me happy, tropical dried up looking ones, not so much.

The wedding isn't as pretty as other real wedding's I've seen on this fantastic blog but the guests' looks definitely make up for it only because I feel like I know someone famous now. ^^

지난 주에는 남편이 목요일 월차를 내고 그 틈을 타 나까지 덩달아 하루를 쉬었다. 느지막히 일어나 모닝쇼를 보며 여유로이 커피도 마시고 남들이 다 일하는 시간 한가로운 하루를 맞이했다. 오랜만에 런치 데이트를 즐기려 23가 파파 하이든에 12시가 조금 넘은 시간 도착했다.

토마토 쥬스 한잔과 커피를 시키고 음식을 기다리는 동안 꽉차인 레스토랑을 보고 우리둘은 저 사람들은 일 안하고 뭐하는 사람들일까 상상해보며 수다를 떨었다. 그리고 조금 헤비한 메뉴를 골랐는데... 오마이 마이, 정말 내가 먹어본 파에야 중 최고로 맛났다. 냄피 바닦이 보이게 싹싹 긁어 먹고 난후 서로에게 감탄하며 너무너무 맛있게 먹고 나왔다. 가끔식 농땡이 치는거도 나쁘지 않을걸?

My one and only compact digital camera broke two weeks ago and I've been looking for a replacement ever since. The last one is an old Canon that my MIL gave me as a gift before we got married so it was over 3 years old. A lot of my friends own DSLRs that take great pictures but I am not willing to pay that much just yet and don't like the idea of carrying around a bulky object with me. After a few hours of searching on-line and reading reviews I found one that I really like. They say it's simple enough even techphobes like me can operate it. Hmm, I really like it.

I've been wearing Splendid's S/S crewneck practically every other day and noticed the other day that it's beginning to look a little worn out. i am giving them 3 stars. it's situated btwn kenny + zuke's & jake's grill with open kitchen and shared seating. Great energy and vibe for sure. i went after work with my colleague who is visiting from Singapore. On her recommendation I ordered the monk fish off of their dinner menu but it turned out to be a bit too bland for me and the fish was too tough. i loved the ambiance and the casualness of the restaurant though. i just wish the food would have been better. i don't do seafood that often and it might have been just that this time so i would give them another try. i will go for their steak next time.

We had great weather in P-town this weekend. I was looking at my closet this morning and thought it'd be good to put some of the heavier stuff in storage and put some fresh spring pieces out and back in the closet. Um... I found nothing fresh. Everything looked so... boring. I feel like now that I am in my early 30's I should really invest in a few very well made pieces that will last me through the decade. I didn't have any of those... So I moved on to my shoe rack in our other storage room. Nothing seemed to match the beautiful weather outside in there either.

So what did I do? I went shopping. I honestly can say that I don't enjoy it as much as I used to, and most of my shopping is done on-line these days anyway. With less than 2 hrs spent at the stores, first at Saks (btw the P-town store is consolidating/closing come July this summer) and then at the Rack, I came home with 6 pairs of new shoes. Yikes, went a little overboard but the prices made sense and of the 6, two were on my wishlist. As soon as I got home, I lined them up in the very front of my shoe rack so I can see them first thing when I open the door. Oh the Spring has come.

when i find something i like i tend to use it 'til it breaks. my green Goyard St. Louis tote is no exception. it's coming apart now and i needed a back up. so in search of a replacement tote as big as my st. louis i found this one from Longchamp. i also took advantage of the F&F promotion @ Saks so with less than 1/10 of what i paid for the old one, i scored this cute little Parisian tote (limited edition too) that will soon be my everyday carryall. *last month's buy didnt' turn out to be so great. i will still use it for my trips though.

i don't think i ever will only because i have like 2 mins to get ready in the monring and it just would not be practical for me. Also the LV & Burberry Bags gotta go. Too tacky. I will say though that my closet is color coded not for the looks but i like everything to be in order. Plus i would never keep my shoes in the closet. #2 is my choice.

내가 고등학교때만해도 BR 이 그야말로 짱이었다.

뭐 패션에 앞서가던 애들은 모르겠으나 그때는 프레피룩의 최고봉이라 나는 생각했었는데...

어느덧 별로 변하지 않는 디자인, 앞서가지 못하는 감각 그리고 가겨대비 낮아진 퀄리티때문에 몇년간 그곳을 찾지 않았었다. 오랜만에 찾아서 그런가 디자인팀을 바꾼걸까 다다음주 캐나다 여행에 때로는 주말에 입고싶은 룩들을 올려본다. 참 여기서 하나... 선물로 받았던 자켓이 맞지않아 리턴을 했는데 영수증없어 gift card 는 안되고 merchandise certificate 으로 회사에서 보내준다해서 그렇게 햇는데 그것으로 사는 물건의 거스름돈이 $5불이상일 경우 또 회사로 보내서 집으로 certificate 을 보내줘야 한다고 한다. 마음에 드는것이 없어서 티셔츠하나 샀더니 또 회사에서 보내줘야 한다해서 지금 또 기다리는중이다. 언제나 또 받을련지.

그러고 보니 3월달 행사가 참 많다. 결혼 기념일, hubs 생일, 그리고 엄마생신.

결혼하고 3번째 남편 생일파티 준비계획중이다. 이미 파티에 쓸 테이블 커버도 사놓은 상태. 내가 좋아하는 건 깔끔하고 심플한 룩인데 아크릴 트레이를 쓰면 확실히 그런 느낌이 난다.

결혼식떄 사진으로만 보던 아크릴 스탠드를 보고 나 저거 사고싶다했더니 자기네들을 안 판다고 해서 너 그거 $20불에 가져오니까 내가 $50불줄께 해서 하나 사왔었다. 이번 hubs 생일에 쓸 예정. 먼지가 소복히 쌓여있네...

담달이면 결혼 3주년이다. 시간이 참 빠르다는 생각이...

결혼식 준비하면서 제일 신경을 많이 쓴일이 드레스 고르는일. 다행히 마음에 드는 드레스를 찾았지만 처음에는 직접 제작했으면 해서 여기저기 많이 수소문했었다.

2달여동안 시도끝에 찾아낸 드레스메이커가 내 결혼식 1달을 두고 이제 그만두겠다고 해서 그 꿈을 접었지만 그때만 해도 23가에 있던 the english department 도 candidate 중의 하나였다.

여성스럽고 delicate 한 디자인 라인과 로맨틱 브라이드와 잘 어울릴 디자인을 이번 시즌에 내놓았다. 얼마전 신입사원 미쉘이 머리에 다는 꽃을 정말 찾고싶다해서 내가 찾아준 그 꽃도 여기에 있다. 결혼사진 보고 내가 다 뿌듯했다.

우리가 처음 이민오던 해 서울에 있던 친구들에게 한달에 몇통씩 편지를 쓰고 또 받고 했었다. Air Mail이라고 쓰여진 봉투가 이상하게 생긴 우체통안에 들어있을때마다 껑충껑충 띄며 좋아했었다. 그 친두들이 이제 모두 30을 갓 넘긴 아줌마들이 되어있다니. 이제는 International Stamp 가 얼마인지도 모르겠다.

다음 달초에 우리가 살고있는 곳으로 막내 아가씨가 한달간 여행을 오신다.
몇달전에 아파트 테라피에서 찾아놓는 DIY Project 를 할때가 온 것이다.
지금 우리가 살고있는 컨도는 1 brm 이지만 주방옆으로 Study 겸 Den 이 있다. 그 곳에 아가씨를 위해 작은 공간을 만들어 주려고 한다. 이번주말에는 hubs 를 꼬셔서 아이키아에 갈 예정이다. 내가 만들수 있을까?

서울에 다녀오면서 그동안 못 읽었던 책을 몇권 구입했다. 정확히 한 12권정도 되는듯 하다. 더 사고 싶었지만 여행가방이 점점 무거워 지고 자리가 없어 그만두어야 했다.

Ever since I got married all I've been wearing are my wedding rings. Those things never come off but I've been on the hunt for a statement-costumy ring for a change. I kinda forgot that I wanted one until today.

with more holidays coming up to lounge-around in the house i decided to browse the web for more appropriate loungewear that isnt' so ... how can i put this... um... so grandma-ish. by now hubs is probably used seeing me this way but i try really hard not to let it go all the way. it might be too late but i want to believe that i still have yet to shown him everything... i found these three very down-to-earth, comfy, cute cardigans each at incredibly affordable prices. i would wear them around the house or even to our holiday gatherings. tis the season.

Hubs 와 단둘이 14시간만에 부산 김해공항에 다달았다.
우리가족이 이민오기전에도 나는 부산에 갔던 기억은 없는듯 하다.
부산은 시댁이 계신곳이다.
한국은 여전히 복잡했고 크레이지 드라이버들이 길거리마다 있었고 힘쎈 아줌마들이 세치기를 하고 시끌시끌 했지만 그 모든것들이 정겹게 느껴졌고 조용하고 조금 느린듯한 P-town의 여유를 잊을만큼 좋은 추억으로 남았다.

When summer fades to autumn in Portland rain comes with it for weeks at a time. As much as I enjoy seeing the leaves start changing into their fall colors I sometimes wish I lived elsewhere where the sun stays around for a bit longer. On the bright side, it's the time of the year when Costco starts bringing in their signature pumpkin pies. So what if its costco brand? With a fresh dollop of whipped cream on top I could eat the entire pie in one sitting. Ok maybe not, but I could eat up to 3 slices easy. For people like me I suggest these darling little single serving pumpkin pies though...

when every wedding i went to seem to have the same color theme brown + any "color". i still love the color combo not just because that's what it was for my own wedding (brown + pink) but brown compliments pretty much every color on the color palette, maybe not black but you know what i mean. what caught my eyes these days are yellow and grey theme weddings. I could have never come up the with color combo myself but i just love the subtleness of the grey and vitality of the contrast color yellow. The color yellow exudes brightness and vitality, it just makes me happy.

한복의 아름다움. 잊고 살았었다.
내 결혼식 조차도 폐백을 하지 않았을뿐더러 식 순서도 잘 알지 못한듯 하다.
오랜만의 한복 갤러리 사진을 보며 자연 그대로의 색이 물들어 있는 아름다운 곡선의 한복이 마음을 따뜻하게 해주었다. 그리고 폐백을 하지 못한것이 못내 아쉬웠다.

09.24 - Portland - 09.25 Seattle

Last weekend we drove up to Seattle to entertain my SIL who was visiting us alone from Seoul while she waited for her travel docs to clear with USCIS.

Seattle is almost identical in many ways to Portland except its size. Hubs first came to the States through Seattle then studied at a small community college in Skagit Valley until he transferred to U of O. So Seattle would be his first choice of city to live in if we ever decided to move out of Portland. He took the day off to join us and volunteered to be our driver. When you get close to downtown Seattle you come up this hilly freeway where you can see the entire city. And when you get to that point that’s when you know you’re almost there. We were a bit worried that it might rain because Seattle is the city that never stops raining you see but luckily the weather was very cooperative. It actually was the BEST we’ve had in all the trips combined to Seattle.

We scored two nice rooms at the Sheraton Seattle through Priceline and found a perfect parking spot that did not require us to pay the extra $35 for valet service. As we pulled into the hotel my SIL and I both yelled out “H&M”. Now normally all of my shopping is done locally because of the no-sales tax in Oregon but people at H&M didn’t think that there was a market for it in Portland. They may be right but I sure would’ve made them profit. That night we were way too tired to do anything so we just hung out in the hotel lounge for a bit then went to bed.

The next morning after having yummy breakfast at the library bistro Hubs dropped us off at “H&M” just in time for the store opening. I think their price point maybe a couple points higher than Forever21’s but seemed more fitting to an older person like me. I walked through the store very slowly and carefully examining each and every item and walked out with three items: A Snood, black studded top & grey knitted vest. From the magazines and articles I read on Fall’s Must Have Items, Snood is the next big thing. The funny thing is my SIL had sent me one from Seoul last year so I wore it all winter long last year.

I can’t wait until winter to sport the snood again. I prefer fall/winter over summer because I never find anything to wear in the Summer time and I am a little overweight to be wearing summer dresses. BOO. When Fall comes around I can just layer on everything and make it work w/o having to show too much skin.

This Fall I’ve got my eyes on this Sport Jacket from J.Crew. SIL tried on this one which is also cute. For basics I always look to J.Crew but sometimes they are not as price competitive as other basic brands so I wait until their final sale and load up on all the T’s and Sweaters. You’ll probably see me wearing the sport jacket next year when it goes out of style.

The three of us had a great time going to the original Starbux, walking around Pike Place Market, having brunch at the bistro and taking lots of pics in between. I never really had the chance to get to know my SIL until now but I am so glad and grateful that my bro found someone who is so nice, caring and down-to-earth. Not to mention stylish. They truly make a perfect pair.

The Waffle Window

On Sundays if we get up early enough we get a couple of hours to enjoy a nice long brunch before our 1 o'clock church service. We have our favorite place just a couple of blocks from our apt but last Sunday I suggested we try a different place. We rarely venture out to the east side or past 39th in the Hawthorne dist. but on this day we decided to try the waffle window just off Hawthrone and 40th? I read about the place somewhere, I think it was in the Oregonian and have been thinking about it because waffles and crepes, I can have any day anytime anywhere.

When we got to the place it was in fact a window of a building and someone came out to take orders from people who were waiting in line just outside on the sidewalk. (how cute i thought) When it was my turn, I walked right up to the window and ordered the berries bliss for Hubs and a Bacon-Brie-Basil for myself.

They were yummy yummy just as I had imagined. I mean you really can't go wrong with breakfast but the bacon and basil resting on top of the melted brie covered sweet waffle was a perfect combination.
I must go back for a chocolate dipped one for dessert.

Last week hubs and I flew down to California for a quick r&r in Palm Springs. I called it the "end of the summer weekend getaway". On the last day, we rode our rented bikes through the hot streets of Indian Wells. I know I mentioned this a few times but I love bike riding, it is one of my favorite outdoor activities and I tell hubs all the time that we each should get our own cruiser bikes. I mentioned it to him again and he said " maybe next summer. it's going to start raining pretty soon". He was right. It started raining here as soon as we returned from our trip. I am going to miss the clear blue skies, the long summer nights, the BBQs, and the Sun shining through our bedroom window. Maybe next year...

그때 가끔 엄마가 딸기쨈을 손수 만들어 하얀 식빵에 발라주셨는데

그때마다 집안에 달콤한 딸기향이 가득했던 기억이 난다.

Favor Idea 로 결혼식 규모에 따라 달라지겠지만 작고 intimate 하게 한다면

homemade jam 도 좋은 아이디어가 될거같다.

딸기쨈 만느는 법은 인터넷 어디서나 찾을수 있다.

Supplies:

아마존에 가면 살수있는 4oz canning jars. 월마트나 프레드 마이어에 가도 손쉽게 구할수 있다.

18″ of string or yarn per jar. 나는 bakers twine을 많이 쓰는 편이다.
8″ square piece of craft tissue. 마이클스에서 구할수 있다.

label 디자인은 포토샵이 있다면 좋겠지만 word 에서 label 만들기를 이용해도 좋을것 같다.

결혼식 일주일전. 친정엄마께서 정성스레 붙여주신 내 이름과 신랑이름의 Initials.
Michael's 에서 푸른색의 비즈를 사다 핫 글루건으로 나의 이름 J 와 신랑 이름 S 를 엄마가 하나하나 밑창에 붙여주셨다. 아쉽게도 사진을 찾을수가 없네...
i didn't splurge on my wedding shoes but if i were to choose now i'd definitely go with Kate Spade shoes. Something about the fit of shoes made my feet look surprisingly sexy and flattering.

DIY ruffly belt with Rachel from Heart of Light via 100 Layer Cake

First off, Rachel is one of the craftiest gals in the blogosphere. If you’re in need of a little modern, down-to-earth Martha in your blog life right now you must visit Heart of Light.

Next, she was nice enough to let us come over and do a little project with her that we are super-dy duper-dy excited to share with you all. Surely we’ve all noticed the crazy belt trend in the wedding world as of late (thank you, J Crew). Well it turns out you don’t have to spend a ton on said accessory. They are surprisingly easy to make.

Supplies:

Quality ribbon - as wide as you’d like your belt to be. We used 1.5 inch grosgrain for our project, but you could certainly use a pretty double satin or something else entirely. Just make sure it will lay nicely on your waist.

Fabric - We used four different types/tones for this project. Rachel chose a few different silks and a tulle. Different textures and weights make for nice variation when they’re all mixed together. The remnants bin of your local fabric store is a great place to start if you’re looking for inspiration.

How to:

Find the center point of your belt/ribbon and start there. We’d recommend cutting your belt longer than you think so you can accommodate for an off center finished product and/or for a big bow in the back.

For the complete tutorial, we’re going to point you towards Rachel’s detailed explanation of a similar headband on her blog. But the gist is this…

Make your petals. Again, how-to is on Heart of Light.

(If you’re concerned with stray threads from rough-cut fabric, Rachel discovered that IF AND ONLY IF you are using 100% natural fiber fabric, you can actually singe the edges of your petals on the stove before you start. This seals the edge and stops your fabric from shedding threads. BUT we repeat, do not attempt this if you’re using synthetic fabric. Two words: Fire. Hazard.)

Stack 2 or 3 petals on top of each other (using a variety of fabrics and colors in each flower).

Twist the back of each flower so you catch the center of all 3 petals and lay it on your ribbon. Now tack it down with a few well placed stiches and repeat.

If you’re using a wider piece of ribbon like we did, you’ll need 2 flowers, side by side, per row. Working in one direction, add as many rows as you want to make the decorative part of your belt the right length. Once you have the general shape and length that you like, you can always go back in and add more flowers where you see fit.

This project is especially excellent because it requires little expertise in terms of sewing. As long as you’re familiar with a needle, thread, and a basic stitch, you are completely qualified to pull this off.

Once you’ve filled your belt with the number of ruffles you like, that’s it! The underside won’t be pretty, but don’t worry. No one’s going to see it. For a more finished product you could always back your belt with a second piece of ribbon.

We can see this project working with just a little flower for your hip or with a full row to accent your entire waist. Totally depends on you!

We’re making more of these, that’s for sure. And seriously, they are so simple you could easily make a whole set for your bridesmaids.

7월초 첫 아이를 기다리고 있는 친구를 위해 baby shower를 준비해주었다.
몇주간 차근차근 준비해두었던 덕에 여우를 좀 부릴수 있었다.
Famer's market에서 구입한 peonies와 lily of valley (?)라는 꽃으로 centerpiece를 하고 green 색을 좋아하는 친구를 위해 sage green napkin을 준비했다.
그리고 늘 고민되는 Party favor. Michael's에 갔더니 Knick Knacks 코너에 레시피카드와 냉장고 장식욕 magnets들이 있어 두개다 묶음으로 마무리했다.
파티는 언제나 즐겁다.
이제는 결혼식보다는 baby shower에 더 많이 가야할 나이. 30...
